E-Government and Staff Performance in Local Government System: A Study of Selected Local Government Areas in Imo State, Nigeria
Abstract
The study has investigated e-government and staff performance in local government system: a study of selected local government areas in Imo State, Nigeria. The objective being to identify the extent of e-government implementation in the local government system in Imo State. The study employed survey research design using questionnaire as the instrument for data collection. The data collected were presented in tables and analyzed using simple percentage. More so, Pearson product moment correlation coefficient – PPMCC - (at 0.05% level of significance) through SPSS version 21.0 was employed as the statistical technique to test the four formulated hypotheses. It was discovered that there is significant relationship between lack of ICT policy and staff performance in the local governments in Imo State; and there is significant relationship between staff ICT compliance and staff performance in the local governments in Imo State. Based on the findings, it was recommended that the government should make favorable ICT policies, fix the Nigeria power sector, enhance ICT facilities availability, and promote regular in-service training for local government employees on ICT so as to enhance their compliance and utilization of e-government in the local government.
