Can Role Ambiguity and Role Conflict Affect Employee’s Job Performance in Christian Faith-based University in Nigeria
Abstract
The study investigated the effect of role ambiguity and role conflict on the employee job performance of Christian faith-based university in Nigeria. Descriptive survey research design was adopted using a structured questionnaire with a total reliability coefficient of 0.759. Primary data were obtained from 143 respondents, through the census sampling technique. The data obtained were descriptively analysed and interpreted, while the hypotheses of the study were tested using Chi-Square, ANOVA, and Multiple Linear Regression Analysis, at 0.05 level of significance. The findings concluded that role conflict does not significantly influence academic employees’ performance in the university (B=0.334, t =1.099, p= 0.274, p> 0.05). Similarly, role conflict significantly influenced academic employees’ performance in the university (B = 1.387, t = 7.181, p= 0.000, p< 0.05). Consequently, the study concluded that role ambiguity and role conflict significantly influenced the performance of academic employees in faith-based university in Nigeria. The study recommended that role ambiguity and role conflict should be avoided when assigning roles to employees of Christian faith-based university in Nigeria.
