Analyzing the Gender Disparities in Boy-Child Education in Nigeria: Causes and Implications
Abstract
Gender disparities in boy-child education persist as a significant challenge in Nigeria, undermining efforts toward achieving inclusive and equitable education. This paper provides an in-depth examination of the causes, implications, and strategies for addressing these disparities. Through a comprehensive review of existing literature, the root causes of gender disparities in boy-child education are identified, including socio-cultural norms, economic factors, and institutional barriers. The implications of these disparities are discussed, highlighting their detrimental effects on individual development, societal progress, and national prosperity. Furthermore, the paper explores various strategies for closing the gap in boy-child education, encompassing policy interventions, community engagement, and targeted educational programs. The benefits of closing these gaps and increasing opportunities for boys in education are underscored, emphasizing enhanced human capital development, economic growth, and social cohesion. In conclusion, the paper synthesizes key findings and offers way forward for policymakers, educators, and stakeholders to promote gender equality in education, foster inclusive learning environments, and ensure equitable access to education for all children in Nigeria.
