Abstract

Governance and leadership are interconnected concepts. Effective governance and leadership are essential for achieving desired outcomes. The development of a country is believed to be limited by the quality of its leadership. The lack of development and corruption can be attributed to issues of leadership and governance. Nigeria requires dedicated leaders who will govern with honesty and determination, effectively utilizing its resources, both natural and human, to achieve sustainable national development. Security is crucial for a nation's survival and progress in order to effectively govern and promote the well-being of its citizens, leading to the development and growth of government policies for their benefit. Government-provided security fosters peaceful coexistence among diverse individuals, enabling them to engage in meaningful activities and contribute to the overall welfare of a nation. However, Nigeria is currently grappling with widespread security challenges across its various regions. This paper provides a descriptive analysis of the relationship between leadership, good governance, insecurity, and peace. It heavily relies on secondary data. The paper suggests that leaders should be accountable to the public by ensuring the provision of dividends to the people. It is imperative for individuals to ensure that their leaders are held responsible for shaping their futures. Leaders must prioritize the preservation of lives and property to foster peaceful coexistence among citizens. There is a need to enhance judicial reforms in order to effectively prosecute leaders who engage in misconduct, specifically by eliminating the immunity clause present in our constitutions.
