Abstract

This paper explores the pervasive influence of God-fatherism in Nigeria politics and it’s detrimental effects on electoral processes, leading to widespread irregularities. Through a review of literature and empirical evidence, it highlights the mechanism through which godfathers exert control over political actors and electoral outcomes, undermining democracy and fostering corruption. The paper concludes with recommendations for combating godfatherism and promoting integrity in Nigeria.
