Abstract

This research presents an exploration of selected biblical parables, focusing on literary stylistics and thematic elements. The research employs a descriptive research design to identify literary devices and thematic methods used in the parables, emphasizing non-quantitative data. This research work is hinged on Russian Formalism because it offers a unique perspective on the study of literature in that, it focuses on the formal aspect of texts. The population of this study encompasses approximately 40 parables from the New Testament, with a sample size of eight selected parables, including the Parable of the Sower, Wheat and Tares, Rich Fool, Prodigal Son, Talents, Good Samaritan, Ten Virgins, and Two Sons. The section on data presentation and analysis delves into literary stylistic analysis, answering research questions such as figures of speech employed in biblical parables and themes as elements of literature. Figures of speech discussed include simile, metaphor, personification, hyperbole, etc. Themes explored in individual parables include spiritual growth, the word of God, etc. This research contributes to a deeper understanding of biblical parables by exploring their literary aspects and thematic richness, offering insights into spiritual and moral teachings. The findings provide valuable resources for scholars, theologians, and individuals seeking a profound comprehension of these timeless narratives.
