Community Government Councils and Rural Development in Aboh-Mbaise Local Government Area, Imo State, Nigeria
Abstract
This study focused on community government councils and rural development in Imo State (2011 – 2019). The study was carried out based on the need to identify the contributions of CGCS to rural development. The study used vacuum filling theory, and data were collected from secondary sources. It was discovered that the community government councils have not achieved these goals, hence poor primary health services, and poor rural road maintenance. The study concludes that the achievement of rural development in Nigeria in general and Imo state in particular depends on the effectiveness of community government councils. On the basis of the above, this study recommends that the current Imo State government should empower community government councils to provide rural health services. More so, the government at the state and local government council should encourage the community government through finance to enable them maintain rural roads.
