Abstract

Nigerian large numbers of population are living in rural areas. These people are working at small scales to fulfill their livelihood and most of them are living in small houses. In such conditions, low cost housing could be the best option and usage of bamboo as constructional material can play a key role to achieve the goal. Several researchers are working towards the economical and eco friendly or green construction. To give attention in this regard, an experimental study was performed using bamboo as replacement of structural steel. In this research, with the help of experimental investigations, the mechanical properties of bamboo has been presented in terms of compressive and tensile strength.
