Abstract

The study investigated drug abuse and implications for counseling among secondary school students in Obudu Local Government Area, Cross River State. To achieve the purpose of this study, four hypotheses were formulated to guide the study. The survey research design was adopted for the study. A sample of two hundred (200) students was randomly selected for the study out of the population of 2012 using simple random sampling technique. The used for data collection was the “Drug Abuse and implications for counseling among Secondary School Student Questionnaire (DAICSSSQ)”. The Pearson product moment Correlation Analysis was used to test the hypotheses of the study at 0.05 level of significance. The study found that tobacco, alcohol, cannabis and Tramadol significantly relate to the implications for counselling among Secondary Schools Students in Obudu Local Government Area, Cross River State. Based on the findings, it was recommended among others that the Government should provide more employment opportunities for school counselors and review existing drug laws to include stiffer penalties for offenders. Allocation of funds to drug – related agencies should be increased to better the fight against the abuse of drugs.
