Female Entrepreneurship as a Catalyst for Inclusive Growth in Post-Conflict North-East Nigeria
Abstract
This paper examines the potential of female entrepreneurship as a driver of inclusive growth and regional development in North-East Nigeria. Using evidences from empirical and qualitative evidence, the study analyzes the motivations, challenges, and economic contributions of female entrepreneurs while exploring the policy, cultural, and institutional constraints that affect their participation in enterprise creation. North-East Nigeria presents a unique case of post-conflict reconstruction and economic recovery, where women’s entrepreneurship has emerged as both a coping strategy and a mechanism for community resilience. Drawing on the frameworks of inclusive growth and gendered entrepreneurship, the paper identifies key enablers of women’s business participation—entrepreneurial education, access to finance, social networks, and digital inclusion—as critical levers for economic diversification and sustainable growth. The study concludes with strategic recommendations for policymakers and development partners to strengthen female entrepreneurship ecosystems and unlock their latent potential as engines of regional transformation.
