Youths, Terrorism and Socio-Economic Development in Nigeria: An Appraisal

Abstract
The paper provides an insighful examination of the socio-economic conditions influencing youths engagement in terrorist enclaves in northern Nigeria in general and Nigeria in particular. The research investigates how poverty, political manuavre, group as well as individual machinations and religious differences interact to drive radicalization among young people who are already at risk of radicalization. It does this by using both empirical data and theoretical frameworks. In order to better understand the dynamics of terrorism, the research investigates Nigeria's socio-economic situation using a survey approach that includes many sample phases. The results demonstrate the significant influence of socio-economic disadvantagse on young people's receptivity to extremist ideas, emphasizing political manipulation, restricted educational opportunities, and poverty as major causes of radicalization. Apart from that, the paper highlights how the Islamic education system known as the 'Almajiri' contributes to young people's susceptibility to extremism and the desire for thorough reform to enhance social inclusion of the vulnerable for better life in the society. The paper recommend among others the need for a transformational and proactive leadership in curtailing the menance and abuse of youth as leaders of tomorrow.
